This is a permanent post is based at University Hospital in Coventry within the Department of Clinical Haematology The post holder will work alongside four substantive specialist trainees in haematology based at UHCW as part of the West Midlands Deanery Training Rotation.

The post holder will have access to the training opportunities available to the substantive specialist trainees at UHCW.
• Provide care and review of inpatients in rotation with colleagues.
• See patients, in liaison with the consultants, within the clinics.
• Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Hickman line removal (training will be given). These may be as booked procedures on the day unit, or ad hoc on the ward.
• Work in the haematology laboratory and receive appropriate training in reporting blood films and bone marrow aspirates.
• Hold the referral/advice bleep in rotation with colleagues and respond to verbal and e-requests for advice from hospital staff and primary care.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a site specialised, evidence-based service, treating according to department protocols.
• Contribute to the management of patients in the Day Unit in collaboration with our Associate Specialist and Speciality Doctor.
• Attend Multidisciplinary Team Meetings in malignant haematology and present patients at those meetings. There is also opportunity to attend MDT meetings in Thrombosis, Benign Haematology, Haemophilia, Haemoglobinopathy and Regional MDTs (Myeloid, Lymphoma and Myeloma).
• Opportunity to participate in clinical research including associate PI scheme/Clinical trial involvement.
• Offer clinical support to the haematology clinical nurse specialists.
• Teaching to medical students and allied health professionals.

Requirements of the post

· Minimum of five years medical work (either continuous or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification.

· At least 2 years experience in general medicine and 3 years experience in Haematology, ideally having MRCP(UK) or equivalent, or be working towards MRCP PACES.
