The Infectious Diseases Unit is based at the John Warin Ward, a 16-bedded unit located at the John Radcliffe Hospital. There are strong links with the surrounding hospitals. This ward admits acutely ill adults with community acquired infections and imported diseases and also provides the only in-patient service for HIV positive patients in the district. The ward has single rooms so that the ward can provide isolation facilities for nosocomial infections that require isolation and for tuberculosis. Ambulatory services are provided by the ward team for fever/returning travellers and HIV disease. An active outpatient antibiotic team (OPAT) service is provided for patients who can be treated as outpatients for a variety of bacterial and fungal infections.

Work on the wards is multidisciplinary, with daily meetings between nurses, doctors, pharmacists, therapists, and other allied health professionals.

Many of the Consultants hold significant leadership, teaching and research roles in the Trust and the University of Oxford, providing unique opportunities for applicants to develop these skills and network with colleagues sharing similar interests. Some of the department’s consultants work also with on-take teams in Acute General Medicine.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and proactive applicant to join an ever-expanding department of convivial and dynamic colleagues.

This is a post to fill a vacant slot on the existing FY2/IMT doctor rota due to an extended period of absence.

The appointee must be medically qualified; have completed at least TWO years’ medical work since obtaining a primary medical qualification and hold full GMC registration. The Scale of appointment will depend on experience and will range from ST1 through ST3 to Staff Grade (Specialty Doctor) level.
