Location: Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London
⏰ Hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00 (37 hours per week) 5 days on site.
Rate: £13.78 per hour
Contract: Full-time, temporary until July 2026 (with potential to extend)

About the Role

Brook Street are recruiting on behalf of HMCTS for a Court Usher to support the smooth running of court proceedings. You will assist judges, legal staff, and court users, ensuring the courtroom operates efficiently while providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Court Preparation: Set up courtrooms with materials (e.g., water, glasses) and clear after hearings.

  • Court Records & Paperwork: Work with judges and clerks, manage hearing papers, record party details, and photocopy documents.

  • ‍⚖️ Witness Management: Swear in witnesses and provide guidance.

  • Customer Service & Liaison: Answer enquiries, inform court users of changes, and escort parties as needed.

  • Collaboration & Office Support: Assist Court Clerks, Legal Advisers, Witness Services, and other office areas.

  • Professional Standards: Maintain punctuality, dress code, and handle sensitive information discreetly.

Key Skills & Competencies
  • Essential: Strong customer service experience - able to deal with the public calmly and professionally

  • Clear and tactful communication

  • Team player with professionalism and respect for all

  • Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations

Experience & Qualifications
  • Essential: Experience in a public-facing role / customer service

  • Legal or courtroom experience and witness management is advantageous

  • Experience handling enquiries and providing information to the public
