Summary


Under the supervision of a registered nurse undertake agreed nursing duties within the neonatal and transitional care setting demonstrating the level of competence and professionalism required as a participating team member to deliver high quality care.

Accurately report work activity to the nurse in charge of the shift.

Accurately and legibly record special care observations and report any changes.

Provide written evaluations of the care they have given with supervision from senior nursing staff.

Communicate effectively with relatives of babies as required.

Communicate with all grades of staff and the wider multidisciplinary team in conjunction with the nurse in charge.

Receive and convey information in a courteous, timely manner to facilitate interpersonal relationships and maintain effective team working.

Attend relevant study days in order to keep up to date with current practice.

Undertake basic life support training and be able to initiate resuscitation if required.

Participate in the appraisal process.

Ensure own knowledge of trust and neonatal network policies and procedures is current e.g. infection control.

Health and safety and fire procedures to ensure a healthy, safe environment.

Take an active role in emergency situations with support from nursing colleagues e.g. Starting newborn resuscitation,

Care for families with difficult social circumstances e.g. child protection.

Participate in infection control and prevention.

Participate in housekeeping duties.

Undertake agreed clinical activities to carry out patient care as planned and delegated by registered nurses.

Assist as directed with the admission, transfer and discharge of babies including use of local its systems.

Assist with health promotion education of parents in the care of their baby and give support as required.
