Environmental Health and Safer Housing Team, currently have a vacancy for the role of Compliance Officer.

About the Role

What is a Safer Housing compliance officer?

A compliance officer responds to complaints in the Private Rented Sector. Housing is a key strategy both locally and nationally. With the demand for Private Rented Sector housing ever increasing, it is important that the sector is regulated. Full training around the role will be given and you will be supported in the role.

The role involves:

  • A varied caseload.
  • Inspecting a wide of range properties on site and desk-based work. (Hybrid working).
  • Recording and updating of key information on software.
  • Using legislation to undertake legal notices to improve housing conditions.
  • Providing advice to Tenants and Landlords with an opportunity to make a difference in the community.
  • Opportunity to tackle prevalent issues such as Damp and Mould in homes or Fire Safety.

Nottingham is a dynamic and popular city with high housing demand, many of which are in the Private rented sector. The council currently has three Licencing schemes for private rented sector with Mandatory and Additional licencing for HMO’s and Selective Licencing that requires most of our private rented properties to be Licensed. We are determined to continue to improve the private rented sector in Nottingham, to reduce anti-social behaviour and drive up housing conditions.

As a Compliance Officer within the Safer Housing team, you would be provided a wide range of diverse experience and learning opportunities, allowing you to grow and develop as an Officer within a supportive team. The Safer Housing team are passionate about developing their officers and provide extensive training and the opportunity to progress through workplace apprenticeships such as an Environmental health degree course.

As a Compliance Officer in The Safer Housing team you would be working hybrid, and we encourage a flexible working pattern to achieve a positive home and work life balance.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, to produce detailed and accurate letters, statements, reports, legal notices and case files.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both face-to-face, over the telephone and by e-mail, to liaise with citizens, internal customers and outside organisations.
  • Ability to assess risk in relation to the area of work and take the most appropriate action to reduce the risk.
  • The ability to identify and address typical faults in traditional and non-traditional housing.
  • Sound practical and working knowledge and understanding of housing construction. The ability to identify and address typical faults in traditional and non-traditional housing.
