We are pleased to invite applications for a 12-month advanced fellowship in luminal resectional endoscopy (upper GI and lower GI). This post offers a focused, high-volume training experience in luminal therapeutic endoscopy based at the Royal hospital site of theUniversity Hospital Liverpool Group` (UHLG)-regional tertiary referral centre for complex luminal resections. The fellowship is designed to support experienced endoscopists in developing subspecialist resection skills under the supervision of nationally recognised experts. The role is based in a state-of-the-art endoscopy unit within the wider directorate of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Mersey School of Endoscopy, a National Endoscopy Training Centre

The Post

The job plan is structured to provide intensive hands-on tertiary level training in a wide range of luminal endoscopy, including:

- Level 3 polypectomy with the expectation of achieving independent practice

- Level 4 polypectomy under direct supervision

- Barrett’s oesophagus therapy including HALO RFA

- Advanced imaging for Barrett’s oesophagus

- Chromoendoscopy for IBD surveillance and complex lesion assessment
ESD exposure (primarily observational, with potential hands-on lower rectal or gastric work depending on progress

The above would be tailored to the successful applicant’s skillset. They will work under the supervision of Consultant Endoscopists specialising in lower GI endoscopy (Dr Sanchoy Sarkar, Dr Edmund Derbyshire, Dr Douglas Penman) and upper GI endoscopy (Dr Andrew Moore, Dr Thomas Skouras), supported by training leads (Dr Penman and Dr Joseph Fiske).

The post requires participation in general luminal gastroenterology clinic and service endoscopy lists, together with active participation in audit and research. The post is ideally suited for a post-CCT gastroenterologist or a senior registrar aiming to consolidate advanced therapeutic endoscopy skills.

On Call Commitments

The successful candidate will be on the gastroenterology registrar on call rota, providing out-of-hour advice and emergency endoscopy provision. At a tertiary center, this



includes receiving referrals from external hospitals for transfer for intervention inclusive of interventional radiology involvement. Emergency out-of-hours endoscopy is undertaken in theatre.

Weekends and Bank Holidays on call will involve inpatient ward rounds for hepatology and luminal gastroenterology patients and seeing routine referrals.

On calls are supported by an on-call Consultant 24/7, and the weekend/bank holiday are supported by a ward consultant on call in addition
