This is an exciting opportunity to join the Acute Medicine Team as a Speciality Doctor in Acute Medicine (SDEC) at Fairfield General Hospital - We are looking for a doctor who can provide expert acute medical care.
This is an exciting time to join the team as you will be part of a hospital and medical department currently undergoing a period of innovation and development. The successful candidate will be joining our innovative team of 13 Consultants with areas of special interest including Respiratory, Diabetes, care of the elderly medicine. You will work alongside other speciality doctors, foundation and higher speciality trainees, junior clinical fellows and the wider multi disciplinary team.
The post is a 12 months fixed term post and therefore essential criteria must be met. These include achievement of competencies equivalent to the end of IMT2 training. Colleagues must be able to organise and prioritise their workload and support more junior members of the MDT. There will be an on call commitment with this post.
We welcome less than full time applications and are willing to discuss flexible working arrangements. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a commitment to Acute Medicine.

Acute Medical Unit
The post holder will be expected to take part in the assessment and management of acute patients admitted to the AMU. This will include taking part in the daily assessment of patients, initiating management plans for these patients and performing procedures (under supervision if needed). This may also include the management of patients requiring non-invasive ventilation and CPAP.
Medical SDEC
As a senior clinical decision maker you will work with experienced doctors, Advanced Care Practitioners, Physician Associates and senior nurses to screen and accept referrals from the Emergency Department, General Practitioners, North West Ambulance Service and community services including the Urgent Care Response team and Hospital and Care at Home. The caseload encompasses a broad range of ambulatory care-sensitive medical conditions for which you will provide clinical assessments, formulate investigation and management plans and offer safe onward referral or discharge.
You may also assist in co-ordination the care of patients assessed by other practitioners, offering your knowledge and advice in support of the department outside usual office hours.
