Ready to impact a better future?
As an On‑Site Technician in our Serco Rail Technical Services team, you’ll help deliver high‑quality Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) and welding support that keeps essential rail operations running safely and smoothly. Your work will help ensure assets are inspected, verified, and maintained to the highest standards — supporting the safety and reliability of rail networks across the UK.
This is a hands‑on role where your technical expertise will directly contribute to safer journeys and better outcomes for customers and communities. You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in providing trusted, specialist services that support a better future for thousands of passengers every day.
What you’ll do as an On‑Site Technician
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Deliver on‑site NDT, inspection, and welder coverage services at customer sites across the UK.
- Provide welding surveillance and inspection to ensure activities comply with approved procedures and standards.
- Complete inspection, testing, and welder coverage documentation accurately and on time to support certification and invoicing.
- Work closely with customers, welding personnel, and site teams to support safe and compliant welding and inspection activities.
- Maintain and inspect test and inspection equipment, reporting any defects or corrective actions as required.
- Uphold high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism at all times.
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
- PCN or ASNT Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications in relevant NDT techniques.
- Up to five years’ experience as an NDT practitioner and/or in a welding inspection support role.
- Experience in on‑site welder coverage, welding inspection, or welding surveillance (desirable).
- Strong knowledge of welding procedures, quality requirements, and inspection practices.
- Good organisational skills, accuracy, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a wider team.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel and work on customer sites.
As well as checking eligibility to work in the UK, you will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to help us identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
