A Vacancy at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for a detailed job description for the role.
You will play a pivotal role in developing, delivering and enhancing high quality educational programmes. These support safe, effective, and evidence based teaching around prescribing. This role provides expert pharmaceutical input to education and training activities, ensuring clinicians are equipped with the knowledge and skills required for optimal patient care. You will have experience of teaching large groups at university level and have a good understanding of the curriculum.
You will be responsible for the development of educational materials from inception and deliver to a variety of students across the degree programme. You will be contributing to medical education initiatives and directly supporting organisational objectives related to patient safety, workforce development, and continuous improvement in clinical practice.
The role helps improve prescribing quality, reduce medication related risk, and promote adherence to best practice and national guidance. You will be required to deliver prescribing updates to medical students and doctors induction at monthly and annual events.
University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.
Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
Specific to this role is the suitability for agileworking which is a mixture of on-site and remote working. In addition, we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service.
At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities.
We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute
You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical teams, education leads at the University of Southampton and governance colleagues to design and deliver impactful learning interventions. There will be opportunity to undertake research as part of the role. This is an exciting role that provides you with a unique teaching experience plus the chance to develop your professional portfolio.
The postholder will be required to be regularly on site for meetings and to deliver teaching. Working days will be dictated by teaching and can be further discussed. Please get in touch via email if you require any clarity.
You will report to the Deputy MSO & Lead clinical pharmacist and will not line manage anyone as part of the role, however this may change in the future.
To add to the job overview, you will be required to deliver teaching sessions at the University of Southampton campus in Highfield or attend meetings across the deanery.
You will be expected to deliver new material with a fresh perspective and to various deadlines. You will be self directed and highly motivated. You will be able to represent your line manager in educational settings and meetings. You will be required to deliver teaching soon after appointment independently, please ensure that this is something that you are prepared for.
You will work closely with the academic team at the University of Southampton under guidance. You will be involved in writing exam questions and marking exam papers for the medical students.
There are periods of time during the academic year which are busier than others, thus allowing you to evaluate material and work on specific projects in the quieter periods.
Please share as much detail of your teaching experience as you can in your application and supporting statement.
