This role can be adapted to suit an applicant with the requisite experience to be appointed as a Principal OR adjusted for applicants who would benefit from working alongside an experienced Executive Principal with support in their first steps towards a first Principal role.
The post has arisen following the retirement of the current Principal, after four years of service leading the college to an Ofsted inspection of ‘Good’ and significantly improved outcomes at both KS4 and post 16. In 2025, the college was the 6th most improved in the country for outcomes at the end of KS4 and is also now in the top 10 UTCs in the country for English and Maths GCSEs at grades 4+ and 5+ and in the top 5 UTCs for outcomes for disadvantaged students. The successful candidate will inherit an ambitious and inclusive college that has seen strong investment and development in recent years.
Having also recently joined Delta Academies Trust in September 2025, this position presents an exciting and unique opportunity to lead Scarborough UTC into the next stage of its development.
Your Opportunity
As Principal or Associate Principal, you will work with other Trust Principals and Executive Principals to provide feedback into the strategic direction of the trust’s school improvement offer. You will communicate and collaborate with the Trust’s CEO, creating and innovating to find our systems of the future. The core element of your work will be to operationally lead Scarborough UTC, ensuring the provision of high-quality teaching and learning, which leads to outstanding outcomes for our students. You will set high standards and high expectations of students, staff and the community; developing collaborative links with other academies, schools and the wider education community; and providing a mentoring role for senior leaders and modelling outstanding practice at all times.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced educationalist to have the opportunity to develop the vision for Scarborough UTC and to increase the partnership working between the college and industry partners. You will be able to use your experience and creativity to develop and expand educational opportunities in Scarborough and beyond, working closely with our governing body, Delta Academies Trust. You will also work alongside strategic stakeholders, such as our regional board, and Baker Dearing Trust as part of the UTC national family.
Your Role
To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of delivering outstanding outcomes for students. The college’s UTC status provides an ideal opportunity for a candidate with a passion for STEM subjects, as well as our other specialisms of computing and health, to really shape a world class offer for students. As the face of the college, you must be able to develop constructive relationships between the UTC, the local authority, local and national statutory and voluntary agencies as well as the college’s industrial and community partners. You must be creative and lead the marketing strategy for Scarborough UTC, ensuring a consistent and positive message and image is presented to the community, inspiring confidence and engagement in the college. You will establish constructive relationships with educational providers, businesses and industry leaders in the local and wider community to understand and respond to local educational and training needs. You will be responsible for the strategic leadership, internal organisation, viability, academic performance and overall success of the college. You will oversee the allocation of resources to allow staff to discharge their responsibilities and hold the overall responsibility for the financial viability and stability of Scarborough UTC. You must demonstrate commitment to your own reflective practice, continuing self-evaluation and personal/professional development, as well as to that of staff working under your leadership and line management.
