The role

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a vibrant Design and Technology department at one of the UK’s leading independent schools. St Edward’s Oxford is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Design and Technology Technician to play a pivotal role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.

The successful candidate will support the practical and technical delivery of lessons and projects across the Design and Technology department, by preparing, organising and managing resources and equipment. This will include working with a wide range of specialist tools and technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and woodworking and electronics equipment.

You will also support CAD/CAM manufacturing across the department, including the setup, operation and maintenance of CNC machinery. Working closely with teaching staff and pupils, you will also assist with digital-to-manufacture workflows, including CAD file preparation, CAM toolpaths and machine operation, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and best practice at all times.

A key aspect of your role involves ensuring that our workshops operate in full compliance with current Health and Safety legislation. You will also be responsible for maintaining tools and machinery, monitoring stock levels and ordering materials.

About you

We are looking for a well-qualified technician with experience in a practical, technical, workshop or manufacturing environment. A degree level (or equivalent) education in Design Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable.

You will have a strong working knowledge of workshop equipment and tools, and experience with technologies such as laser cutters, CNC machines, lathes, pillar drills, welding equipment and 3D printers (training will be provided where there are knowledge gaps). You will be comfortable providing hands-on technical support, constructing teaching aids and carrying out minor repairs. A basic understanding of COSHH and current Health and Safety requirements within Design and Technology is also essential.

The deadline for applications is Friday 30th January.

We reserve the right to conduct interviews and appoint for the role before the advertised closing date should a suitable candidate be found. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.
