SEN Teaching Assistant - Walsall (Full‑Time, Long‑Term)Supporting Pupils with SLD, PMLD, Autism & Complex NeedsAre you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs?A purpose‑built special school in Walsall is looking for dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join their team on a full‑time basis. The school supports children and young adults aged 11-19 with a wide range of needs, including:Pupil Needs You Will Support

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Autism and communication needs (ASC)
  • Complex medical needs and sensory impairments
  • Physical disabilities requiring mobility and personal care support

This is an incredibly rewarding environment where no two days are the same and every small achievement is celebrated.Your Role as a Special School Teaching AssistantAs part of a highly supportive and multidisciplinary team, your duties may include:Classroom Support

  • Supporting students with personalised learning programmes
  • Breaking tasks down into manageable steps
  • Using visual aids, communication tools and sensory resources
  • Assisting the classroom teacher with planning learning activities

Personal Care & Medical Support(Full training provided)

  • Supporting with hoisting, mobility, and positioning
  • Assisting with feeding, personal care, and hygiene routines
  • Following care plans for pupils with complex needs

Behaviour & Emotional Support

  • Using de‑escalation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Creating calm, nurturing relationships with pupils
  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and engage in learning

Learning Through Sensory & Practical Activities

  • Delivering sensory play, outdoor learning and life‑skills tasks
  • Supporting pupils in hydrotherapy, rebound therapy or physiotherapy sessions (training given)
