To be responsible for a team of Portering and Security staff on shift, delivering a responsive, dynamic and first-class service to patients, staff and visitors to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The post holder will support the Head of Portering and Security by leading a friendly, efficient customer focused Portering and Security team to support the achievements of the local and wider trust objectives. The post holder will be responsible for a team of Portering and Security staff on shift, delivering a responsive, dynamic and first class service to patients, staff and visitors to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn. The post holder will have base level knowledge of both internal policies and national standards in order to independently supervise the day to day management of the Portering and Security service which complies with patient safety and security.
The post holder will be specifically responsible for the day to day labour management and motivation of the on shift Portering and Security team, to ensure a proficient and supportive service to all end users. They will support each team member's individual training and development needs.
1. To be responsible, on a shift basis, for the provision of an effective and efficient Portering and Security service to all Wards and Departments at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn.
2. To be responsible for organising and directing Portering and Security staff on shift ensuring that the internal transfers of patients between wards and departments, are carried out timely and efficiently. Transferring deceased patients from wards to the mortuary in a timely, courteous and respectful manner.
3. To be responsible for maintaining high profile security patrols of the hospital and grounds.
4. To ensure that the hospital is made secure, by the locking of all appropriate doors and windows during the silent hours and to ensure these doors are unlocked as required, in accordance with the established procedure.
5. To control out of hours access by contractors and visitors, ensuring appropriate authorisation is in place and security is maintained.
6. To assist both members of the public and staff against incidents of violence and aggression that may occur on the hospital premises, and to liaise with the Police and ensure that all incidents are documented.
7. To act as the Responsible Officer for the hospital in the event of the fire alarm being raised until the Fire Service arrives. Assist in the co-ordination for the evacuation of patients and the public in the event of a major fire.
