What skills and experience we're looking for

The Academies for Character and Excellence is a successful mixed Multi Academy Trust of 20 Church of England and Community Primary Schools across Torbay, Devon and Somerset.

The current CEO, who has been in position since its inception, is retiring at the end of this academic year.

Trustees wish to be transparent that there is a strong succession plan in place for the position of CEO to continue building on the current successes. While this is the case, we are open to expressions of interest for this role from exceptional candidates who meet the essential criteria in the person specification.

Accountable to the Board of Trustees, the person appointed will continue to provide strong leadership and strategic direction in realising the key priorities of the Trust. This will include leadership of the executive team, which includes the Chief Financial Officer, Excellence Director, Trust Operations Director and the Trust Flourishing Communities Ambassador.

The CEO will be a values-led, mission-driven leader, with outstanding strategic leadership to continue evolving the vision and culture of The Academies for Character and Excellence. This person will inspire and empower others in this journey.

The CEO will be accountable and take responsibility for the performance of all schools within the Trust: a driven leader with the highest expectations for all children. This person will have a deep understanding of the Trust curriculum and pedagogy to ensure that the Trust outcomes continue to outperform national expectations. The CEO will continue to progress the innovative curriculum and pedagogy to drive up standards even further.

Salary will be in line with the national Leadership Group Pay Range (L38– L43) and the postholder will work 52 weeks a year with a generous holiday entitlement and pension scheme.

The post holder will be expected to work across all of the Trust sites but will be based at the Trust Central Office in Totnes.
