We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable Support Worker to support Liam, a happy, playful and strong-willed young man based in Rutherglen.
Liam enjoys life’s simple pleasures – watching movies (especially Disney!), music videos, enjoying sweeties and takeaways, and spending time with his favourite teddies and soft toys. He has a big interest in dinosaurs, animals, and anything to do with the under the sea and water. Liam also loves outings such as trips to the zoo and swimming, as well as using his tablet.
About Liam
Liam has autism, a learning disability, and limited vocabulary. He communicates in his own way and benefits from support that is calm, respectful and responsive to his needs.
The Role
You will provide 1:1 support to help Liam:
• Access activities he enjoys within the community
• Build confidence when interacting with other people
• Some support with personal care
A big part of this role is taking time to get to know Liam, following his lead, and supporting him at his pace.
Hours
Wednesday & Thursday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
Friday: 10:00am – 1:00pm
In addition, one week per month you will work a substitute weekend day:
• Thursday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
• Friday: 10:00am – 1:00pm
• Saturday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
• Patient, understanding and approachable
• Able to build trust without encroaching
• Responsive to Liam’s moods and communication
• Confident using de-escalation techniques or willing to learn
• Reliable and committed to providing consistent support
Experience supporting people with autism or learning disabilities is desirable but not essential – the right attitude is most important.
What’s On Offer
• A rewarding role making a genuine difference
• Ongoing support and guidance
• The chance to work closely with one individual and build a meaningful connection
If you feel you have the patience, empathy and enthusiasm to support Liam to enjoy his interests and grow in confidence, we would love to hear from you – please apply online.
