Neway International are seeking a Liability Claims Officer (Grade E) to join our client based with Plymouth City Council.

Location: Ballard House, West Hoe Road, West Hoe, Plymouth, Devon, PL1 3BJ
Hours: 37 per week
Start Date: 02 March 2026
Duration: 26 Weeks
Rate:

PAYE: £15.56 per hour

Limited/Umbrella: £20.29 per hour
Work Pattern: Hybrid – minimum one day per week in the office

About the Client
Plymouth City Council’s Insurance Team operates within Customer and Corporate Services, providing a professional and responsive service managing liability claims made against the Council. The team works closely with internal departments, external solicitors, and members of the public to ensure claims are handled efficiently, fairly, and in line with legal and regulatory requirements.

The Role
The Liability Claims Officer will investigate, process, and manage public liability claims relating to personal injury and property damage. You will assess liability, gather evidence, liaise with internal service areas, and work closely with the Council’s solicitors where claims progress to litigation.

This role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and the ability to communicate complex and sometimes sensitive information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Investigate and process public liability claims from initial receipt through to resolution.

Assess liability and make informed decisions based on evidence and legal principles.

Liaise with internal departments to gather information and prepare evidence.

Work closely with external solicitors on litigated claims.

Communicate clearly with claimants, legal representatives, internal teams, and external organisations.

Monitor claim progress and maintain accurate, timely records.

Ensure compliance with Civil Procedure Rules, GDPR, and internal policies.

Use Microsoft Office and other PC‑based applications to manage casework effectively.

Manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.

Candidate Requirements
Recent experience in an insurance or claims‑handling role.

Strong understanding of legal liability principles and public liability claims.

Knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules and GDPR.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information.

Confident decision‑maker with strong investigative and analytical skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other PC‑based systems.

Ability to manage a varied caseload in a busy environment.
