The Role
The Streetcare Operative will support daily cleansing operations across the borough, contributing to the delivery of a clean and safe environment. Working as part of the Streetcare team, you will carry out a range of manual and operational tasks including litter picking, bin emptying, weed removal, fly‑tip clearance, and general street cleansing. The role requires the ability to drive and operate mechanical equipment as directed.

Key Responsibilities
Carry out daily cleansing duties including litter picking, bin emptying, brush and shovel work, and waste clearance.

Operate mechanical equipment such as leaf blowers, pedestrian sweepers, and weed‑ripping tools.

Erect and remove traffic management equipment where required.

Report street scene defects such as graffiti, fly‑tipping, damaged signs, and vegetation issues.

Assist with weed spraying, removal of illegal signs, and general environmental maintenance.

Support adverse weather operations including sandbag filling, snow clearance, and gritting.

Remove small dead animals in line with service procedures.

Work flexibly across teams to cover absences or meet service needs.

Follow all health and safety procedures and undertake required training.

Represent the council professionally and maintain a positive image of the service.

Candidate Requirements
Full driving licence (essential).

Experience in manual work or outdoor labouring roles.

Ability to operate cleansing equipment or willingness to learn.

Knowledge of street cleansing operations is desirable.

Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.

Reliable, committed, and able to work safely at all times.

Eligibility to work in the UK and ability to provide required compliance documentation.
