Your Core Purpose
As a Room Leader, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of your room, ensuring high-quality care, learning and development for every child. You’ll lead by example, support and guide your team, and work closely with the Manager and Deputy Manager to deliver the EYFS effectively and consistently. This is a hands-on leadership role — perfect for an experienced practitioner ready to take the next step or an established Room Leader who loves shaping practice and supporting others.
Key Responsibilities
Quality of Care & Learning
- Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of the All Stars ambitious curriculum in line with the EYFS statutory framework.
- Ensure observations, assessments and next steps are purposeful, accurate and child-centred.
- Support children’s learning and development across all areas, including those with SEND or additional needs.
- Create a warm, inclusive and enabling environment where children feel safe, confident and valued.
Leadership & Team Support
- Act as a positive role model, setting high expectations for practice within the room.
- Support, mentor and guide practitioners, students and apprentices.
- Help induct new staff and contribute to supervision discussions where appropriate.
- Encourage reflective practice and continuous improvement within the room.
Safeguarding, Health & Safety
- Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare within the room.
- Ensure policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Carry out daily checks and contribute to risk assessments and health & safety practice.
- Respond appropriately to concerns, accidents and incidents, reporting in line with setting procedures.
Partnership with Parents & Families
- Build strong, respectful relationships with families.
- Share children’s progress, achievements and next steps in a clear and supportive way.
- Encourage parental involvement and engagement in their child’s learning journey.
Organisation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records for children, including learning journeys, registers and care needs.
- Support inspection readiness and quality improvement within your room.
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure consistency across the setting.
Essential Qualifications& Experience
- Hold a DFE Full & Relevant qualification at Level 3 or above (or equivalent).
- Sound working knowledge of the EYFS statutory framework and child development
- Experience working within an early years setting (ideally with some leadership or key-person responsibility)
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, health &safety and welfare requirements
- Ability to lead practice confidently while remaining hands-on with children
- Enhanced DBS Checklist with barred checklist and suitable to work with children.
- Full and Relevant 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid Training or willingness to complete before being counted in ratio.
- Good spoken & written English
- Food Safety Level 2 or willingness to complete before handling food
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner or acting lead
- Experience supporting students, apprentices or new staff
- Additional training or interest in areas such as SEND, behaviour support, outdoor learning or wellbeing
- Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE or Functional Skills)
