Salary: £12.97 per hour
About the Role
We are recruiting for Casual Minibus Drivers to work as and when required to cover periods of holiday and sickness for our part-time drivers.
You will assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and reliable transport service for our clients who attend the Thornycroft Centre in Pontefract, and you may be required to travel to and from other locations for the purposes of the charity. The hours are typically a split shift pattern of 7.30am-10am and 2.30pm-5pm, however these times can vary slightly depending on the route.
Key Responsibilities
To ensure clients are transported to and from the Centre in a safe, courteous and timely manner including those with disabilities or mobility issues.
Where appropriate, courteously assist clients to access and exit the vehicle, including the safe operation of the vehicle’s tail lift.
To work as part of the Centre team to plan and deliver outreach services, ensuring that clients are transported safely.
To assist colleagues and Centre Co-ordinator on occasion with the delivery of services within the Centre if required.
To identify and report any concerns regarding client welfare and safeguarding immediately to the Centre Co-Ordinator.
Support the Centre Co-ordinator to promote and market the service to encourage new clients to the Centre.
To be able to accurately handle cash, operate a contactless payment device and maintain appropriate records to account for all transactions.
To support the Centre Co-Ordinator to ensure the vehicle is serviced and maintained according to safety guidelines and legislation.
To carry out and record daily maintenance and safety checks of the vehicle, report any discrepancies/faults, and remedy where possible.
Undertake duties associated with regular cleaning of the vehicle and any relevant equipment.
Comply with all statutory and other legal duties and responsibilities relating to the post and vehicle.
Ensure that the vehicle is left secure and in a safe condition when unattended.
To attend training and staff meetings as and when necessary.
To comply with all CISWO’s Policies and Procedures.
Any other reasonable duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
Driving Licence with Category D1
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Strong team player and ability to work independently
An understanding of safeguarding / health and safety when working with this client group
Understanding and empathy with the client group
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to problem solve and use initiative
Able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with client information
Has a professional, friendly and caring manner
Flexibility to work split shifts and be available at short notice
A good standard of education including GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
A satisfactory DBS check will be required
Desirable:
Previous driving experience in a work capacity
MIDAS qualification
To have an awareness/understanding of safeguarding issues
Experience of cash handling
Understanding of the issues faced by former miners and former mining communities
