The Design Technology Technician (Experienced – Non-Qualified) will provide specialist technical, practical and in-class support to the Design & Technology department. The role focuses on enabling effective teaching and learning through high-quality preparation, workshop support and direct supervision of students during practical activities.
This post is suitable for candidates with significant Design & Technology classroom or workshop experience, even where formal teaching qualifications are not held.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and Classroom Support
-Prepare materials, tools and equipment to support Design & Technology lessons.
-Support teaching staff during practical lessons by supervising students and reinforcing safe working practices.
-Provide practical guidance to students during workshop activities under the direction of teaching staff.
-Assist with demonstrations and practical set-ups as required.
Workshop and Equipment Management
-Maintain Design Technology workshops, preparation rooms and storage areas in an organised and safe condition.
-Carry out routine checks of tools and equipment, reporting defects or safety concerns.
-Clean, maintain and store equipment appropriately following use.
-Assist with stock control, storage and organisation of materials.
Student Supervision
-Supervise students during practical activities, ensuring appropriate behaviour and safe use of equipment.
-Support learners on a one-to-one or small-group basis during practical tasks.
-Promote positive engagement and adherence to workshop expectations.
Departmental Support
-Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support lesson delivery and practical outcomes.
-Assist with displays, preparation of learning materials and general departmental organisation.
-Support practical assessment and examination preparation where required.
-Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the Design Technology department.
