Crynodeb
With a changing climate and a growing population, the risks from flooding, coastal erosion, drought environmental degradation and habitat loss are increasing. The Environment Agency plays a vital role in tackling these issues, and we need to secure more investment to keep people safe and leave the environment in a better state for the next generation.
We are recruiting a Senior Strategic Funding and Finance specialist. This individual will sit within the Strategic Funding team, who work to unlock the opportunity for large scale investment in the natural environment and climate resilience. To achieve this the team work on a number of levels:
Embedding Partnership Funding approaches within the Environment Agency
Advising operational staff on potential revenue streams for project funding
Creating an evidence base for policies and regulation that can unlock barriers and opportunities for growth.
Providing insights on nature and climate markets.
Successful candidates will work closely with government, the private sector and across the Environment Agency. Our current focus is on strengthening organisational capability for partnership funding, regulation and advice on project funding. Team members work in an agile manner across these themes according to priorities and funding.
The team
The role sits within the Future Funding function of Sustainability, Transformation and Assurance reporting to the Strategic Funding and Finance Manager, operating across the organisation. The role will be part of a small team who support the delivery of the organisational wide approach to securing sources of investment in the environment, but we expect it to work very closely with colleagues across the business.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone who combines excellent people and influencing skills with strong problem structuring and creative thinking skills. You will enjoy developing new relationships with partners, be ambitious and committed to demonstrating real on the ground progress in environmental outcomes.
Essential skills and experience:
Knowledge of current and emerging green finance policy and trends
Innovative self-starter who takes initiative
Strong engagement and influencing skills
High-level of creative thinking and willingness to innovate
Desirable:
Demonstrable experience of policy, regulation and/or investment
An understanding of data and metrics for reporting
An understanding of adaptation, net zero and nature markets
Good understanding of current UK environmental policy
