Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of shaping Suffolk’s future transport network. Your day-to-day work will involve responding to planning consultations on behalf of the Local Highway Authority, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to agree design principles for new developments. Using your expertise in highways and planning, you’ll secure vital infrastructure improvements that mitigate the impact of growth and enhance accessibility for all. Beyond this, you’ll support colleagues in creating town-wide transport plans, contributing innovative proposals for schemes that make our communities safer, more sustainable, and better connected.

You will need
- Passion for promoting high standards of sustainable transport in new developments by influencing a wide audience as to the benefits for the people of Suffolk.
- Good level understanding of all aspects of highway design and construction and relevant sections of the Highway Act.
- To be capable to represent the team at meetings with internal and external organisations to provide expert advice in area of work, sometimes in challenging circumstances.

The team
You will be part of a team that works together to provide comments on the suitability of new development in highway terms to local planning authorities. The Transport Planning Teams forms part of the Transport Strategy team, helping to deliver growth across Suffolk. These teams include, Development Management, ensuring new developments are sustainable in highway terms to support Suffolk’s growth ambitions.. We secure funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives, including active travel.
