Do you have a solid, practical understanding of Functional Safety (BS EN 61508 / 61511) and know how to apply it in real?world industrial environments?
The Opportunity
Reporting to a Lead EC&I Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high?quality Control & Instrumentation (C&I) / Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) design across single?discipline and multi?discipline engineering projects. These projects typically span the full lifecycle—from concept and FEED through detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover—across both greenfield and brownfield environments.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Produce and deliver EC&I / C&I engineering and design in line with project scope, standards, and client expectations.
- Support the Lead Engineer in planning, budgeting, progress reporting, and change control.
- Ensure consistency and integration of C&I design with other engineering disciplines, including Mechanical, Civil & Structural, Process, Piping, and Automation.
- Maintain responsibility for the technical quality, accuracy, and completeness of all C&I deliverables.
- Participate in internal and external design reviews, presenting your work clearly and confidently.
- Apply and uphold Functional Safety principles in accordance with BS EN 61508 / 61511.
- Coordinate with construction, testing, and commissioning teams to support post?design activities (preferred).
- Work effectively within a multi?discipline engineering environment, ensuring smooth interfaces and alignment across all project areas.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a C&I or EC&I Engineer within Engineering, EPCM, or EPC environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of C&I engineering and design, with a solid understanding of related disciplines (Automation, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Piping, Process).
- Good understanding of both Electrical and Instrumentation / Control disciplines, with the capability to lead design activities across both.
- Experience working in one or more key sectors such as Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, Petrochemicals, or Food.
- Strong working knowledge of current British and International Standards.
- Proven ability to plan, organise, and deliver engineering activities with a “right first time” mentality.
- A results?driven approach, ensuring high?quality outputs and client satisfaction.
It’s great if you also have the following
- Degree (MEng / MSc / BEng / BSc) in EC&I, C&I, Electrical & Instrumentation, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Functional Safety knowledge to BS EN 61508 / 61511.
