Ready to impact a better future?
At Serco, we are proud to partner with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) in providing critical recruitment services for the UK’s Armed Forces. This new approach will, for the first time, see the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force have a joint Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service will provide end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment, onboarding, and Phase 1 training. Our team brings together best-in-class integrated technology and specialist partners to offer a holistic recruitment and skills solution for the UK Armed Forces, designed to modernise and improve the overall candidate experience. We are driven by the values of doing the right thing for our people, the MOD, His Majesty’s Government (HMG), broader society, and the candidates we source.
As a Dependencies Manager in our UK&E Defence – AFRS team, you’ll lead the identification and management of dependencies across the Armed Forces Recruitment Services (AFRS) Transition Programme. Your work will ensure seamless collaboration between Serco, its partners, and the customer, driving robust governance and integrated delivery.
This role is all about creating positive impact through best practice. By embedding dependency management across AFRS, you’ll help shape a future where projects run smoothly, risks are mitigated, and stakeholders are aligned – ultimately supporting the success of a programme that touches lives across the defence community.
What you’ll do as a Dependencies Manager You’ll be entrusted to:
- Work with the Requirements team to ensure that both Authority and inter TEAM Serco dependencies are fully integrated with the requirements data base
- Work with the Authority Operational Design Team to ensure that Authority dependencies are fully detailed and accurate
- Create and implement a Dependencies Management Plan including integration and embedding of dependencies management activities across AFRS. This will include contractual dependencies between Serco and the customer, and those between Serco and its partners. Specifically, the Dependencies Manager will manage day-to-day interactions between Serco, its partners, and the customer, ensuring different parties are getting what they need from each other when they need it.
- Identification of cross-workstream interdependencies including pro-active management of teams for dependency management activities.
- Support the Head of PMO & Transformation in owning the AFRS RAIDO Register and driving engagement in dependencies management within the Senior Leadership Team, and customer stakeholders, ensuring ownership of dependencies, procedures and key controls remain fit for purpose and effectively manage dependencies.
Does this sound like you? You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
- A strong background in dependency management and understanding of its impact on programme delivery
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex processes clearly
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with MI reporting; MS Project and Visio desirable
- Strong planning and organisational skills to manage multiple streams of work
- An innovative mindset with confidence to challenge current ways of working
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, deriving clarity from ambiguity
- A professional qualification such as APM or PRINCE2 (desirable)
Vetting and checks: This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards.
