Summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our small and dedicated Corporate Information Management (CIM) Team at Cambridgeshire County Council as a CIM Operations Assistant for 29.5 hours per week.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we anticipate an office move taking place in early Spring; we therefore expect the contractual base for this role to be Stanton House, Huntingdon, PE29 6XL. This is in line with our efforts to continually develop postal services within the Council and within this role you will be encouraged to shape processes.
In this varied role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality postal and records management services, helping the Council operate efficiently and provide an excellent customer experience. This is an exciting chance to gain insight into work across the whole Council, develop your professional skills, and contribute to our vision of creating a greener, fairer, and more caring Cambridgeshire.

What will you be doing?- Processing and sorting incoming and outgoing post, including operating machinery for folding and inserting, as well as printing, franking, scanning, and preparing mail for collection and delivery.
- Assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Council’s internal courier service.
- Advising staff on the most cost-effective postal options to ensure best value for money.
- Carrying out key records management duties, including using databases and spreadsheets to track records, returns, and ensure security and compliance with GDPR and other legislation.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to support the modernisation of electronic document records management, as well as blue badge and bus pass processing.
- Maintaining accurate filing systems (paper and electronic) and supporting smooth office operations, including handling communications via Outlook and telephone, photocopying, and managing supplies.
- Assisting with financial controls, such as coding for internal recharges and processing transactions.
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety procedures and actively contributing to a safe working environment.
- Supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives throughout your work.
- Educated to GCSE standard (A–C in English and Maths) or equivalent; an NVQ Level 2 or ECDL in a relevant subject is desirable.
- Confident using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet) and willing to learn new IT systems.
- Strong attention to detail, numerate and literate, with a commitment to accuracy in both written and numerical tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Ability to work effectively within a team, with flexibility to meet service demands, and capable of working on your own initiative.
- Experience in office administration is essential; experience in postal environments, records management, or local authority work is desirable.
- Understanding of confidentiality, Health and Safety, and equality, diversity, and inclusion.
