The Role The GP Assistant role is designed to support GPs with both clinical and administrative tasks, helping to improve patient access, efficiency, and continuity of care. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in healthcare and primary care services. Key Responsibilities Sorting and prioritising all incoming clinical documents (post, EMIS documents, email) and allocating actions for the GP. Signposting relevant correspondence to appropriate team members (e.g. clinical pharmacists, care coordinators). Extracting information from clinical letters that requires coding and accurately updating patient records. Arranging patient appointments, referrals, investigations, and follow-up appointments. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core sections of forms for GP review and signature, including insurance, mortgage, and benefits agency forms. Completing registrations of new patients Preparing insurance reports and Subject Access Requests (SARs), using the IGPR programme where possible, ensuring appropriate redaction of records. Supporting GPs in liaising with external agencies. Working with care coordinators to assist with the follow-up of delayed patient referrals. Maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to information governance standards at all times. Essential Criteria Strong organisational and communication skills Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team Good IT skills and attention to detail Commitment to patient confidentiality and professionalism Desirable Criteria Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting Care Certificate or equivalent healthcare qualification Experience with clinical systems (EMIS) Interest in developing clinical skills within primary care
