Summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced metalworker to join a skilled team assisting with the manufacture, restoration and installation of, and repairs to ironwork (gates, railings, staircases, balustrades, fire escapes, security grilles etc) predominantly within the London area. Established over 100 years ago, J H Porter & Son Ltd has a solid reputation for providing bespoke ironwork projects, which requires strong attention to detail, skilled craftsmanship and teamwork.
Main duties:
1. Working with different metals including wrought iron, cast iron and steel.
2. Working individually or as a team, to provide metal work, confidently using hand and power tools, sharing skills and supporting junior team members as necessary.
3. Prepare materials, cutting lists and ensure consumables are maintained.
4.Maintain quality, upholding high standards of safety, accuracy and finish in all work undertaken, while maximising efficiency and minimising waste.
5. Occasional work on the forge or using oxygen/propane gas to heat metal.
6. Occasional artistic or architectural work e.g. making decorative iron gates, furniture etc
7. Painting finished metalwork.
8. Driving the truck (not essential) and carrying out installations as necessary.
9. Occasional help with lifting steels (although you’ll use machines for heavier work), along with working from heights and using ladders.
10. Other duties including taking in stock, taking messages, making tea/coffee, tidying workplace and any other duties as required by the Manager.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
• Proven experience of welding and metal fabrication in a workshop or construction setting.
• Competent in using fabrication tools and machinery.
• Awareness of health & safety best practice in workshop and site environments, particularly when welding, lifting and working from heights.
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Punctual and time management skills
• Right to work in UK without restrictions.

• Driving
Further Information:
You will be expected to wear PPE as necessary, which we provide: eye, ear and respiratory protection, face shield and gloves.
Hours: 7.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday
Salary: Competitive (according to experience)
Annual Leave: 28 days per annum inclusive of Bank Holidays.
Pension: Company pension scheme (optional).
