Neway International are seeking a Waste Collection Assistant to join our client based with Thurrock Council.
Location: Oliver Close, West Thurrock, Essex, RM20 3ED
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Temporary – 12 weeks
Start Date: asap
Rate: PAYE £13.76 per hour / Ltd/Umbrella £17.81 per hour

About the Client
This role sits within Thurrock Council’s Waste Services team, part of the Street Scene and Leisure directorate. The service is responsible for delivering high-quality waste and recycling collections across the borough, ensuring clean neighbourhoods and reliable frontline services for residents.

The Role
The Waste Collection Assistant will support the Waste Collection team in carrying out manual labour duties associated with household waste, recycling, and environmental services. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role requiring reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining high service standards.

Key Responsibilities
Assisting with the collection of household waste, recycling, food waste, and garden waste.

Loading waste and recycling bins onto collection vehicles safely and efficiently.

Working as part of a crew to complete daily collection rounds.

Ensuring waste is handled in line with health and safety procedures.

Reporting issues such as contamination, missed bins, or access problems.

Maintaining a courteous and professional approach when interacting with the public.

Supporting additional street scene duties as required.

Candidate Requirements
Ability to carry out physically demanding manual labour.

Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Awareness of basic health and safety practices.

Previous experience in waste services, grounds maintenance, or manual labour is desirable but not essential.
