Senior Temporary Works Structural Design Engineer
Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: Up to £55,000 (dependent on experience)

Are you an experienced Temporary Works Engineer ready to take a lead role on complex projects and mentor the next generation of engineers? We’re recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist provider of ground support systems for the construction industry. This well-established business designs, manufactures, and supplies a wide range of temporary works and excavation support solutions, supporting major infrastructure and building projects across the UK.

The Role
As a Senior Temporary Works Structural Design Engineer, you will play a key role within the in-house design team, taking technical ownership of projects from concept through to delivery. You’ll lead the design of safe, practical, and cost-effective temporary works solutions while providing guidance, mentoring, and technical oversight to more junior engineers. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident in both design and leadership, with the opportunity to influence project outcomes and engineering standards across the business.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design and checking of structural and geotechnical solutions for temporary works and excavation support schemes.
- Take responsibility for project delivery, ensuring designs are completed safely, efficiently, and to programme.
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical reports in line with relevant standards and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers, supporting their development.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and internal project teams to deliver practical, buildable design solutions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes, standards, and innovation within the team.
- Ensure full compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

About You

- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
- Significant experience in temporary works and/or excavation support design.
- Strong technical understanding of structural mechanics and relevant design codes.
- Experience leading projects and overseeing the work of junior engineers.
- Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with clients and project stakeholders.
- Proactive, organised, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient with relevant design software and CAD tools.
- Must be a UK citizen (sponsorship not available).

What’s on Offer

- Salary up to £55,000, depending on experience.
- Opportunity to take a senior, influential role within a respected and growing business.
- Involvement in a wide range of challenging and high-profile projects.
- Support towards chartership and ongoing professional development.
- Friendly, collaborative working environment with clear progression opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Temporary Works Engineer looking to step into a senior position with real responsibility and impact. If you’re ready to lead projects and develop others while working on technically interesting schemes, we’d love to hear from you.
