Head of ER & Policy
Hemel Hempstead (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
Annual salary + bonus and benefits
At Haven, great guest experiences start with great people decisions. As our Head of Employee Relations & Policy, you’ll lead a high-impact, central ER & Policy function that supports over 40 parks and our support office to operate at their best. As the trusted ER expert, you’ll set the strategy, frameworks and standards that drive fair, consistent and commercially sound outcomes. From complex investigations and critical casework to clear, practical policies, you’ll enable leaders to act with confidence, manage risk effectively and create a safe, inclusive and high-performing environment to ensure that both our teams and the business thrive.
What you will be doing:
- Leading and developing a high-performing ER & Policy team by setting clear standards, building capability and embedding a positive, values-led culture focused on quality, consistency and continuous improvement.
- Providing strategic leadership on complex ER, IR and risk by acting as the final escalation point for high-risk cases, Employment Tribunals and ACAS matters, and advising Exec and Operations with sound judgement that protects both our people and the Haven brand.
- Owning and governing Haven’s people policies and employment law compliance by ensuring policies are simple, accessible, legally robust and consistently applied, with strong supplier and external partner management.
- Building leader capability through tools, training and insight by delivering a clear ER learning roadmap, practical guidance and self-service resources that enable confident, fair and timely people decisions across parks and support functions.
- Driving insight-led improvement and partnership by using ER data, trends and root-cause analysis to reduce risk, prevent repeat issues and continuously improve ER practice in close collaboration with People Partners, People Services and Operations.
What we’d like you to bring:
- Strong expertise in UK employment law, employee relations best practice, and multi-site operations, including safeguarding, EDI, industrial relations and managing complex investigations and hearings with a calm, pragmatic approach
- Proven senior leadership experience in ER, with the ability to influence confidently, manage risk effectively, and lead end-to-end resolution of high-risk and complex cases.
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical and legal information into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences — from Executives to frontline team members.
- Commitment to continuous learning, staying technically curious about evolving legislation, and presenting changes in a practical “so what, now what” format that drives business impact.
- Ideally, CIPD Level 7 qualified (or equivalent experience), with strong coaching and team development skills, modelling fairness, positivity, and compassionate leadership that builds trusted partnerships.
