Crynodeb
As the Highway Authority for the borough, responsible for the management of around 2,300km of public highways, the Council, also has a responsibility for managing the risk presented by trees in private ownership close to our highways.
We are looking to recruit a Tree Surveyor to our Tree Team based at the Guilden Sutton Highways Depot on the outskirts of Chester.
Working within the Council's Transport and Highways Service, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise and assist in the delivering the responsibilities of the Tree Team to manage the Council’s tree stock and ensure its risks are managed appropriately.
A permanent opportunity has arisen to work within the Tree Team. The role of the Tree Surveyor will be to provide a professional arboricultural service to assist with the management of the Council’s tree stock.
Typical duties include:
To develop, undertake and ensure effective delivery of tree and woodland surveys/inspections, assess tree condition and ensure health and safety in accordance with the Council’s statutory and tree management policy obligations.
Assist to develop the Council’s tree inventory and management system of all trees and woodlands within the Councils ownership to establish a framework for proactive cyclic inspection and maintenance of trees. Produce and organize associated work programmes and their delivery.
Deal effectively and efficiently with tree enquiries and complaints through to conclusion from members of the public, elected members and council officers both verbally and in writing, adhering to the Council’s tree management policies and customer service standards.
Raise works and assist in supervising and monitoring the performance of the Council’s arboricultural contractors and ensure that specifications and standards are fully complied with.
Assist with the development of a collaborative, partnership approach to tree and woodland management including project works with other service areas, the community, Friends Groups, volunteers and other organisations.
Maintain, interpret and disseminate information to promote best practice in the management of tree and woodland assets and resources.
Contribute to the preparation and presentation of reports for associated project boards, committees, community stakeholder groups and national, regional and local bodies as required.
Provide professional and technical advice to other council services, the public and other organisations on trees and woodlands.
Survey and assess private trees which represent a health and safety risk to users of the Public Highway and/ or have an amenity impact on Council assets and associated services.
Contribute to the operation and development of the Council’s Tree/Arboricultural team and Street Care Parks and Greenspaces.
Identify the presence and stage of Ash Dieback tree disease over the period when trees are in leaf.
Support the evaluation and response to tree insurance claims.
We are looking for a person who is keen, forward thinking, ability to multi-task, excellent communication and has experience, skills, and knowledge within Arboriculture.
