Neway International are seeking an HR Project Officer (PO2) to join our client, the London Borough of Islington, within their Human Resources service.

Location: London Borough of Islington
Hours: 35 hours per week (09:00–17:30)
Start Date: 9 February 2026
Pay Rates:
• PAYE: £25.12 per hour
• Umbrella/Ltd: £33.22 per hour

The Role
The HR Project Officer will coordinate and deliver HR projects aligned to the Council’s workforce strategy. This includes policy development, employee engagement initiatives, digitalisation projects and wider HR service improvements. The role requires strong project management capability, excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across HR and wider services.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate HR projects supporting the Council’s workforce strategy and service delivery.

Develop project plans, manage timelines and ensure delivery of agreed outputs.

Work with internal teams and stakeholders to meet project objectives and maintain alignment with business needs.

Identify and manage project risks, issues and dependencies, escalating where appropriate.

Conduct research and analyse people‑related data to inform HR programmes and decision‑making.

Prepare reports, recommendations and updates for senior managers.

Support communication of project aims, progress and outcomes across HR and the wider organisation.

Contribute to the planning and monitoring of the HR work programme.

Ensure compliance with GDPR, Health & Safety and relevant HR policies.

Candidate Requirements
Essential:

CIPD qualified or equivalent knowledge/experience.

Project management qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Experience planning and delivering HR projects of varying size and complexity.

Ability to research HR‑related topics and analyse qualitative and quantitative data.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to build effective working relationships with managers, staff and stakeholders.

Knowledge of HR functions, service delivery and project‑based HR work.

Ability to monitor progress against project plans and take corrective action where needed.

Solution‑focused approach with a commitment to high‑quality outcomes.

Evidence of continued professional development.
