Neway International are seeking a Waste Collection Round Leader (HGV) to join our client based with Thurrock Council.

Location: Oliver Close, West Thurrock, Essex, RM20 3ED
Hours: 37 hours per week
Start Date: asap
Pay Rates:
• PAYE: £17.38 per hour
• Umbrella/Ltd: £22.58 per hour

About the Client
Thurrock Council’s Waste Services team delivers essential frontline services that keep neighbourhoods clean, safe and well‑maintained. The Waste Collection service is responsible for reliable and efficient waste and recycling collections across the borough, ensuring high standards of public service.

The Role
The Waste Collection Round Leader will support and lead daily waste and recycling operations. This is a hands‑on, physically active role requiring teamwork, safe vehicle operation and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, adaptability and a strong commitment to service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and support waste and recycling collection rounds across the borough.

Carry out manual handling duties including loading, lifting and moving waste.

Drive HGV vehicles safely and efficiently, including rear‑steer vehicles where required.

Work independently while maintaining high operational standards.

Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures.

Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.

Represent the Council professionally when interacting with residents and the public.

Candidate Requirements
Minimum two years’ LGV/HGV driving experience.

Experience with rear‑steer vehicles is preferred.

Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to varied duties.

Strong work ethic, reliability and willingness to learn.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physically capable of undertaking manual labour tasks.
