Neway International are seeking a Mental Health Social Worker (Adults) – Grade 10 to join our client based with Somerset Council.

Location: Church Street, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 5AT
Hours: 37 hours per week
Start Date: 26 January 2026

Work Pattern: Minimum 2 days per week in office/Somerset
Pay Rates:
• PAYE: £27.78 per hour
• Umbrella/Ltd: £38.00 per hour

About the Client
Somerset Council’s Adults Services & Housing directorate delivers high‑quality, person‑centred support across Adults & Health Operations. The Mental Health service works to promote recovery, independence and wellbeing for adults experiencing mental health difficulties, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met and integrated support is delivered across partner agencies.

The Role
This role provides specialist social work interventions to adults with mental health needs, supporting statutory functions under the Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. The post is based in Bridgwater and covers a secondment until August 2026. The successful candidate will manage a complex caseload, contribute to multi‑disciplinary work and support safe, effective discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities
Complete Care Act assessments, support plans and reviews for adults with mental health needs.

Apply the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act appropriately in practice.

Work collaboratively with health partners, housing, voluntary sector and wider agencies to deliver integrated support.

Manage a complex caseload with a strong focus on safeguarding and risk management.

Participate in multi‑disciplinary meetings and contribute to inpatient discharge planning.

Maintain accurate, compliant case records in line with data protection and confidentiality standards.

Respond promptly to urgent situations and adapt to changing priorities.

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.

Experience in adult mental health social work, including statutory assessments and safeguarding.

Strong working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.

Excellent communication, negotiation and partnership‑working skills.

Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively and meet statutory timescales.

Willingness to work a minimum of two days per week in the office/Somerset.
