Summary
Job Overview
-To contribute to the effective contract performance by working and supporting all the Air Head Technical Sections and Supply by undertaking routine and general support activities as tasked.
-To gain an understanding of GES, Visiting Aircraft Handling Section (VAHS) and other technical departments operational duties.
-Maintain high personnel standards of work and practices including workshop husbandry, tool and equipment control, domestic duties and general manual engineering tasks.
-Step up in the absence of the GES Supervisor as required.
-Be competent with operating and maintaining airfield support equipment (ASE), ground power units (GPU), lifting equipment, aircraft steps, heating and ventilation equipment and other specialist equipment.
Main Duties
-Maintain, service, repair and modification of the mechanical and electrical aspects of Ground Support Equipment and vehicles in accordance with current technical publications.
-Provide support to the Supply section during ship to shore operations.
-Understand the demanding of spares or consumables through the military supply system.
-Learn to maintain, drive and operate MoD marine craft and associated equipment, (boat handler).
-Provide support during the ship to shore transfers and pipeline maintenance.
-Assist in maintaining the battery charging facility and the demanding of replacement batteries.
-Learn to conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and register maintenance.
-Participate in GES/VAHS out of hour activities as required.
-Collect data as required for reporting requirements.
-Work in MTMS when required.
-Learn to undertake vehicle fault finding and diagnostic equipment analysis.
-Be prepared to undertake training as required on Island or off.
What we are looking for
-Would suit RAF Trade Group 1 & Trade Group 5 engineers.
-Must be qualified in engineering, in either mechanical or electrical discipline to level 3 standard or equivalent experience. Preferable a multi skilled technician would be highly desirable.
-Experience of working in a workshop environment essential.
-Good standard of education with good IT and media skills.
-Must have a good command of the English language, both spoken and written.
-Good all round communication skills with managers, colleagues and the client.
-Able to deal effectively with periods of intense activity, working under pressure meeting deadlines without supervision.
-Must be prepared to undertake a wide variety of tasks, often physically demanding.
-A good level of physical fitness and wellbeing, no underlying illness or ailments.
-Familiar with working within an aerodrome environment and military aviation policies.
-Must be able to swim 100m
-Must have a clean driving licence, minimum B & C1
-Desirable - Competent with fleet management software (JAMES).
-Desirable - IPAF 5a MEWPS operator qualified and 5c boom.
-Desirable - Welding and fabrication.
-Desirable - Familiar with towing airfield support equipment.
-Desirable - Defence Workplace Trainer (DWT) and or Train the Trainer (TtT) instructor.
Mitie will pay a competitive salary, monthly site allowance and bonus. Hours of work are 47.5 per week. The contract duration is 24 months with 80 days leave excluding weekends. There will be an entitlement to the Ascension Island Bank Holidays. Flights will be arranged to and from Ascension Island for agreed holiday periods. The position is unaccompanied, single accommodation on Travellers Hill, 3 meals at the Combined Mess, all corporate work wear and personal protective equipment included. Must be capable of obtaining security clearance, evisa from the Ascension Government, be declared medically and dentally fit to work on Ascension Island.
