To work as an Advanced Practitioner (sonographer) undertaking a wide range of examinations demonstrating excellence in these to a high professional standard and being responsible for autonomous written reports on 95% of these examinations. The range of clinical work will comprise Second and Third trimester obstetric Ultrasound scans and Early Pregnancy viability scans to include TVS. Experience in scanning / independently reporting gynae (inc TVS) and general abdominal scanning is desirable but not essential. To provide specialist information by performing, interpreting and reporting examinations as per departmental protocols. Ensuring that reports are generated promptly, (based upon clinical history provided, information from the patient and scan the appearances) and that any urgent findings are acted upon in the patients best interest e.g. recorded into patients notes or verbally relayed to the referring clinician. To be responsible for the workflow within the area of work ensuring that clinical requests are acted upon as appropriate (ensuring that any urgent requests/examinations are flagged up and acted upon in the patients best interest) and that a good throughput of patient examinations is achieved. Checking patients details prior to examination and ensuring that such details are present and correct on the request form/computer. (PAUSED and checked) Requests must be justified, as per departmental protocol To inform patients of their scan results when appropriate, imparting bad news eg foetal death/abnormality in a sensitive and empathetic way and to provide help and support to colleagues with respect to this. Have a flexible attitude towards the hours of work and participate in work and duties as required relevant to the directorate. To participate in any out of hours rota already established or established in the future. To participate in management of waiting list by vetting examination requests in a timely and effective manner. The post holder will be expected to be autonomous in and develop their clinical practice. The post holder will provide supervision, support and education to qualified and unqualified staff. To attend service meetings as appropriate. To participate in and promote Quality assurance within the department. To ensure that all Trust, Unit and Directorate policies relating to Health and Safety, COSHH, Security and Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999, IR(ME)R 2000 and any other Local Radiation Safety policies are understood and observed in the department. To attend compulsory training as instructed. To ensure the effective use of resources, liaising with the Site Superintendent in respect of this. Accept personal responsibility and accountability for your infection prevention and control practice Any other Ad Hoc duties that may be required.
