Summary

About the role:

Horsham District Council is looking for a Group Accountant (Technical) to join our Finance and Performance team. You will be responsible for the provision of high-level technical accounting, ensuring compliance with local government accounting regulations and offering strategic financial advice. Leading on all aspects of capital and asset accounting, your role includes setting and monitoring the capital programme, maintaining the fixed asset register, compiling capital and treasury strategies, overseeing the completion of regulatory returns, and assisting with the preparation of the Annual Statement of Accounts.

About you:

To succeed as Group Accountant (Technical) you will have demonstrable experience working in a financial environment, preferably within the public sector, with experience in the management and preparation of year end processes and the production of financial statements. You will have excellent communication and people management skills and an ability to develop and maintain good working relationships throughout the Council and its partners. You will be part of a core team aimed at meeting corporate financial objectives, driving change and implementing best practice in financial systems, and therefore also be able to manage a demanding workload, have good organisational skills and be able to manage your time and priorities effectively. As a CCAB qualified accountant, you will need extensive experience of financial management and have the skills to support financial and management accounting service for the Council’s capital programme. You’ll be able to understand and interpret government legislation and similar complex documents, have sound analytical skills, and a flexible approach to work with attention to detail.
