Kitchen Assistant – Nursery Setting
We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant who is dedicated to supporting our nursery team and ensuring
that every mealtime is a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience for our children.
Key Responsibilities
Serve ready-cooked meals to children, following portion and presentation guidelines.
Prepare simple meals such as sandwiches and salads.
Adhere to all food hygiene and safety legislation, maintaining a professional standard at all
times.
Follow procedures for food allergies, intolerances, and special dietary requirements.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and pantry.
Manage and record kitchen safety checks, including fridge and freezer temperatures.
Rotate stock, put away deliveries, and monitor expiry dates.
Support infection control by following cleaning schedules and hygiene procedures.
Dispose of waste safely and responsibly.
Report any faults or maintenance issues promptly.
Attend mandatory training such as Food Hygiene, Health and Safety, and Infection Control.
Experience of working in a professional food establishment for example, school, nursery,
café, or catering setting.
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) or equivalent qualification – essential.
Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
Awareness of children’s allergies and dietary needs.
Reliable, organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Friendly, caring, and committed to supporting children’s health and wellbeing.
Willing to undertake cleaning and housekeeping duties as part of the role.
Hours of Work: 9.30-1.30 Monday to Friday - Hours can be negotiated
