Assistant Psychologist at Surehaven GlasgowShaw healthcare is looking for an Assistant Psychologist to join the team at Surehaven Glasgow. Surehaven Hospital is a low secure independent hospital in Drumchapel, Glasgow. There are 21 beds across two wards (male and female), which is in the process of expansion to include an additional 12 beds. It has a multidisciplinary team consisting of a Forensic Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Occupational Therapists, Nursing staff and Support Workers.Role Summary To contribute to the Forensic Psychological Service by supporting the qualified psychologist and wider clinical team in the undertaking and delivery of a range of clinical and research-based tasks. There will be opportunities to co-facilitate a range of group intervention programmes (both structured and bespoke), as well as working with other disciplines in the planning and development of clinical treatment. Another key role will include the completion of clinical case file reviews and completion of psychological risk assessments. Responsibilities will also include multi-disciplinary working, development/delivery of staff training, contributing to the sharing of psychological knowledge and case discussion. There will be a requirement to complete clinically related administration. All work will take place under the direction, supervision and management of an experienced Psychologist.Main duties of the jobPost holders will have the opportunity to observe psychological assessments and interventions being carried out by the psychologist, to jointly facilitate intervention groups with other disciplines, and to independently carry out pieces of clinical work, such as psychometric and neuropsychological assessments, risk assessments and appropriate clinical interventions under supervision. Training will be given in relevant areas in order to support the post holder both in this role and in their on-going career progression.Candidates need to be an enthusiastic and committed graduate who wish to develop their clinical skills working in a progressive, multi-disciplinary team providing high-quality person-centred care for individuals who experienced severe and enduring mental health difficulties.Key ResponsibilitiesClinicalTo assist in the development and facilitation of intervention sessions and groups as appropriate (either group or 1:1 interventions).To assist in the formulation of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of clients worked with, under the supervision of a qualified professional.To undertake joint work with other clinical staff as required by the client’s care plan.To support the work of other team members as appropriate.To complete case file reviews and contribute to the completion of Psychological Risk Assessments (such as HCR20v3, SARA, RSVPv2 and SAPROF)Other clinical duties will be agreed and decided depending on the post holder’s interests and level of experience.ResearchTo assist in the development and implementation of audit, research and service evaluation projects.To undertake data collection and related analysis of findings.To be able to use IT programmes in the analysis of research data.To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research related to both the outlined treatment initiatives and the clinical practice of psychologists within Mental Health.Information SystemsTo use a computer as necessary for clinical work, including literature searches, word processing, developing and maintaining training packages and information leaflets, maintaining psychology service databases, emailing, report writing and other tasks as necessary for the efficient running of the service and/or training needs.To use statistical and other software (spreadsheets, word processing, presentation packages, databases) for the analysis and presentation of clinical and research data.Responsibility for Patient/Client CareTo exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the supervised assessment and treatment of clients, and manage and maintain a caseload in line with service guidelines.To communicate, in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, to clients, their families and others as appropriate, information that may be contentious or highly distressing concerning the nature of their problems, the psychological assessment, formulation of the difficulties and treatment plans.To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients under supervision and to provide advice to other professions on the psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management in line with organisational policies and procedures.To monitor and evaluate progress during the course of clients’ care and provide reports on this.To produce reports on clients, in a timely manner, that convey the key findings of psychological assessment and formulation and treatment outcome in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including clients and referrers.
