Do you hold an IBMS accredited degree acceptable for HCPC registration? Are you looking for a laboratory training opportunity to complete your IBMS registration portfolio and gain your Certificate of Competence to enable you to become a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist?
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and professional individual to join our Virology and Molecular Pathology team within Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist. Previous NHS laboratory experience in Virology/ Molecular diagnostics or knowledge of the diagnostic techniques involved is expected.
The department is multi-disciplinary with responsibility for the operational delivery of infectious disease Serology and Molecular testing and Genomics testing for both Blood Sciences and Cellular Pathology. The serology immunoassays run on automated Blood Sciences tracks and Molecular work is moving onto fully automated PCR platforms.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
In this post you will train to become a Biomedical Scientist providing essential diagnostic services to patients across the Coventry and Warwickshire area. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop hands-on experience in a fast-paced laboratory environment, contribute to high quality patient care and gain HCPC registration.
• To perform and interpret routine laboratory investigations according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• To measure and monitor the accuracy of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures and report results within the agreed turnaround time.
• To meet all laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff.
Note this is a Training opportunity for an individual with an accredited degree and discipline appropriate knowledge and experience to gain HCPC registration. Candidates who are already HCPC registered need NOT apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to work across both laboratory sites and participate in 24/7 shift working.

• Under supervision, daily perform routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures.
• Under supervision, daily perform interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical non-conformance and when to inform the line manager.
• Perform accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation.
• As appropriate and under supervision, record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them.
• Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal records
• Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff.
• Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff.
• Under supervision, develop and investigate new techniques as required by the changing needs of the service.
• To regularly inform and discuss progress of training with laboratory training officer and other senior staff as appropriate.
