Head Sommelier (Head Wine Butler)
We are currently recruiting an experienced Head Sommelier for an established and prestigious Private Members Club in Central London. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, ideal for a wine professional who enjoys working in a refined, member-focused environment and takes pride in exceptional service.
Role overview
Role: Head Wine Butler
Location: Private Members Club in Central London
Shift: Monday to Friday on split shifts, offering a good work-life balance rarely found in hospitality; 36 hours per week
Pay rate: from £16 per hour plus holiday accrual
As Head Sommelier, you will take full ownership of the wine offering across the club. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of wine service, curating the wine list, and guiding members and guests through thoughtful recommendations. This is a hands-on role that combines service, leadership and deep product knowledge.
Key responsibilities
• Manage and develop the wine list to suit the club’s style and membership
• Oversee wine service across all dining areas, ensuring consistency and attention to detail
• Advise members and guests on wine pairings and selections, tailoring recommendations to individual preferences
• Manage wine stock, ordering, storage and cellar organisation
• Train and support the front of house team to improve wine knowledge and service standards
• Work closely with senior management and the kitchen to align wine offerings with menus and events
Requirements
• Extensive knowledge of wine is essential, with proven experience in a senior sommelier or similar role
• A genuine passion for wine and hospitality, with a confident yet approachable manner
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are required
• Experience working in a fine dining, luxury or private members club environment is highly desirable
• You must be comfortable working split shifts, Monday to Friday
