MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.0 CLINICAL AND PROFESSIONALPatient CareTo be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical practice for patients under your management. To receive referrals and independently assess and treat own caseload of patients, ensuring evaluation and progression of treatment programmes to a high standard, and in line with National and Trust clinical guidelines, protocols and pathways where they exist. To have clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, including those with highly complex and diverse conditions, and prioritise that work efficiently taking into account clinical and service priorities. To manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload, and within team. To have up to date knowledge of indications, contraindications and precautions for any treatment skills and techniques selected and applied throughout an individual course of treatment. To formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on sound specialist knowledge of current practice, evidence-based practice and treatment options, using highly specialist clinical assessment and reasoning skills. To have specialist knowledge of a range of treatment skills including manual physiotherapy techniques, exercise and patient education. To provide physiotherapy to patients individually, or as a group. To provide assessment and recommendations for people with musculoskeletal problems that are affecting their ability to work. To ensure effective discharge planning within the team, liaising with other members of the Occupational Health MDT and /or GPs as appropriate. To provide individual patient equipment as required, such as aids, splints and supports. To issue such equipment with due regard to safety of the equipment, and in line with legal, national and local guidelines. To deliver physiotherapy in different locations, according to the requirements of the post e.g. Occupational Health Department at Kings College Hospital Denmark Hill and at Orpington Hospital. There may be a requirement to cover other clinics or complete site visits in staff workplaces. The post may require some lone working with telephone support from a seniorPhysiotherapist as required. To provide specialist advice to physiotherapy colleagues and other members of the MDT regarding musculoskeletal physiotherapy, including advice and recommendations to referrers. To attend multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences and site visits to the main hospital. Ensure that the physiotherapy management of a patient is integrated into the multidisciplinary management and treatment plan and discharge planning. Undertake other clinical duties as requested by the Advanced Specialist Occupational Health Physiotherapist within the clinical area.
