Summary


The North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) is recruiting a Specialty Doctor to work in the Islington Memory Service. This is a community-based job.

The post has become available now for temporary recruitment as the training post from February to August 2026 has not been filled. The post will offer 5 Programmed Activities per week – 4 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and up to 1 PAs for supporting professional activity (SPA).

The post holder will be required to provide clinical and professional input to their team and to take part in related service development activities alongside the consultant and manager. The post will offer the opportunity to perform clinical assessments of individuals with memory problems including mental state examination, history taking, and attendance of meetings with the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will work closely with the rest of the multidisciplinary team (consultant, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapist, social workers & graduate mental health workers). The care delivered is recovery-focused, placing emphasis on individuals’ strengths and goals for the future. The post holder will gain specialist experience in the assessment and treatment of various types of dementia and working with family and carers.

It is expected that the medical team members will take a lead role in assessing new patients, requesting and interpreting investigations, diagnosis and discussion with patients and their carers. The post holder will provide medical input to a multi-disciplinary team and be required to enter information on the Trust's electronic patient record system according to Trust policies. Specific duties are listed below:

• To undertake comprehensive new patient assessments and follow up reviews

• To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and to take part in governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.

• To work within the multidisciplinary team promoting respect for all professional groups and focusing on coherent and integrated teamwork.

• To contribute to informal teaching and support to other professionals in the Memory service teams

• Compliance with all legal obligations covering clinical practice (e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice).

• A commitment to ensuring fair access to services for all.

• Compliance with procedures whereby doctors report concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues.
