About the Role

The Grosvenor Hotel in Plymouth is seeking a reliable, responsible, and highly flexible Hotel Caretaker to support the safe, secure, and smooth day‑to‑day operation of the hotel. This role includes both daytime and nighttime caretaking, and is suited to someone practical, trustworthy, and able to respond at short notice, including overnight cover.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Acting as the main point of contact for the hotel during assigned shifts

Acting as a key holder, responsible for the security of the building and safe handling of keys

Opening and securing the hotel as required, including locking and unlocking procedures

Answering telephone calls and responding to guest enquiries

Checking guests in and out when required

Ensuring the hotel remains secure at all times, including monitoring access and responding to security concerns

Following all hotel fire safety and emergency procedures

Carrying out routine checks of fire alarms, emergency lighting, and exits as required

Cleaning guest rooms and public areas when needed

Carrying out general handyman duties, maintenance tasks, and minor repairs

Responding to issues or emergencies promptly and calmly, including out-of-hours incidents

Completing additional reasonable tasks as requested by management

Hours & Contract

Zero‑hours contract

We are recruiting for the following cover:

1 primary night caretaker to cover 5 nights per week

1 secondary night caretaker to cover 2 nights per week

2 day caretakers, who will also be required to cover night shifts when needed

Shifts may be offered at very short notice

All caretakers must be fully flexible and willing to work nights

The role includes being on call when required

Pay

Day shifts: Hourly or shift‑based rate (to be discussed)

Night shifts: Fixed rate per shift, as sleeping is permitted

If you are required to attend to duties during the night, additional pay will be discussed

On‑call duties: Rates of pay will be discussed separately when on call

About You

Proven experience in general handyman and maintenance tasks

Experience with electrical work, holding a recognised UK electrical qualification (essential)

Fully flexible with availability and willing to work night shifts

Comfortable being on call and responding to issues when required

Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently

Calm and professional when dealing with guests or emergencies
