Crynodeb

We are looking for an experienced occupational therapist or physiotherapist with specialist knowledge of patient moving and handling to lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of patient moving and handling training across the Trust. The post holder will act as the Trust’s professional lead for moving and handling, supporting safe practice and reducing risk to patients and staff.

We wish to shift from a training model to one were competence is assessed, and training provided in specific areas when competence is not demonstrated, and this will be a key component of the role. We can be flexible with your working pattern, recognising that a training role requires planning of annual leave and shifts.

if you would like to discuss the role or to find out more, please contact Jane Trundle

Professional Responsibility for Patient Moving and Handling
• Act as the Trust’s subject matter expert for patient moving and handling, providing authoritative advice to clinical and non-clinical teams.
• Ensure Trust policies and procedures reflect current legislation, best practice, and national standards (e.g., MHRA, HSE guidance).
• Monitor compliance with moving and handling standards through audits, incident reviews, and risk assessments.

2. Delivery of Moving and Handling Training
• Design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality training programmes for all staff groups, including induction, refresher, and specialist courses.
• Use evidence-based teaching methods and simulation to enhance practical skills and confidence.
• Adapt training content to meet diverse learning needs and clinical contexts.

3. Development of New Models of Competence Assessment
• Lead the development and implementation of competency frameworks for moving and handling across the Trust.
• Introduce innovative assessment methods (e.g., scenario-based assessments, digital learning tools) to ensure staff demonstrate safe, effective practice.
