Simulation Based Education (SBE) is widely recognised as a means of improving patient outcomes through enhanced learning of evidence-based standards. The simulation service supports the Trust in meeting two of its strategic priorities: improving clinical handover; improving sepsis screening and timely management. Furthermore, our service supports Trust strategic priorities: ability to deliver high quality care; be the employer of choice; and deliver care at better cost. In addition to this, our simulation service supports staff deliver the standard of care and experience expected as per our PROUD values.
For all simulation services delivered in the Trust the post holder will have overview of these and implement quality procedures to ensure all simulation related educational opportunities contribute towards meeting Trust quality and strategic priorities, ASPiH standards, HEE strategy, and as part of this Trust values are met. Knowledge and experience of simulation and human factors are vital requirements for this position. All training delivered requires close collaboration and working relationships with internal and external staff .

Applicants with simulation experience who have not yet achieved Simulation Instructor status are invited to join at Band 6 as a developmental opportunity, with progression to Band 7 upon attaining instructor status within six months.
· The post holder will, as a senior team member, facilitate the delivery and development of simulation programmes run at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
· The post holder will be expected to prioritise workload effectively, delegate tasks to junior task members, supporting those fulfilling objectives, and ensure simulation programmes are delivered to a high quality and are a reliable provision
· The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of the day to day running of simulation courses running within the education centre and support simulation activity at the Chelsea and Westminster site when needed, providing expert advice as require
• Within this, the post holder will ensure courses meet the required external educational learning objectives where appropriate e.g. Foundation Medical Simulation Training

Roles and responsibilities
Clinical Practice
· To work in accordance with the NMC, GMC and HCPC’s Code of Professional Conduct, and Trust Policies and Procedures.
· To ensure that the post holder’s practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge and evidence based.
· To work clinically at least 20% on a planned basis, supporting learners in developing their practice.
· To maintain effective working relations with colleagues at all levels and from different multi-disciplinary profession.
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with key personnel with the Trust and service users to ensure effective partnership working
Education and Research
· To facilitate the learning and continuing development of all learners within the Trust, ensuring that education is responsive to service developments.
· To develop and co-ordinate planned educational programmes adhering to the highest standard
· Develop and maintain an evaluation process for SBE programmes delivered to ensure high quality training is being provided
· Ensure effective communication and dissemination of training information related to training sessions and courses to ensure attendance and timely completion of training requirements
· Support the development of new course / programmes with direction from Clinical simulation Education Nurse
· Support and develop faculty, including development programme, activities and recruitment
· To promote research awareness by, disseminating appropriate evidence-based and research findings relevant to the clinical practice area.
· To keep the Education Lead, Professional Practice and Standards, informed of any new research proposals, and on the progress of research studies approved by the Trust R&D and Ethics Committee.
· To support education and training of new learners of all levels working and learning in practice across all fields of practice.
· To participate in inter-professional teaching and learning.
· Develop and deliver human factors teaching / training sessions to meet internal requirements
· Ensure the response to course / candidate enquiries in a timely manner, providing information regarding courses and course development through developing and monitoring processes for work
· Ensure the maintenance of training records for simulation and ensuring the processes meet GDPR requirements
Corporate Practice Development
· To work with senior leads i.e. ward managers and matrons to ensure that development processes are implemented within their clinical areas
· To work with the Ward Manager/Matron to ensure clinical practice within their Division is compliant with national guidance and standards i.e. NICE guidance
· To be aware of themes and trends arising from clinical incidents and complaints, and ensure these form part of the on-going educational and development programmes for learners on all levels within their Division
· Raise and escalate concerns regarding fitness for practice and or patient safety issues to appropriate Trust managers, clinical tutors, further education officers and leads without delay using the appropriate platforms.
Workforce
· To produce appropriate educational data or reports requested by management.
· To lead in the process of ensuring multi-disciplinary training to meet specific initiatives.
· To assist in the process of recruitment of staff and in conjunction with colleagues, identify and implement educational strategies that support retention.
· In conjunction with senior managers, identify and address the educational implications of audit findings and clinical incidents.
· To ensure compliance with the Trust's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, supporting the delivery of the Trust's duty to positively promote equality and equality of opportunity for all staff, ensuring services are responsive to the needs of equality groups.
· In conjunction with senior managers, provide direction for the wards to achieve identified goals.
Financial
· To make effective use of available resources and eliminate waste in order to contribute to the cost effective delivery of services.
General
· To help support and maintain the Trust’s policy on Record Keeping.
· To actively participate in quality assurance strategies and audit, including current DH initiatives and performance data.
· To manage own time to ensure balance between clinical and administrative activities.
· To make an active contribution to clinical governance strategies, particularly in relation to producing and/or reviewing clinical guidelines.
· To actively participate in maintaining own professional development, identifying own educational and clinical training needs with line manager.
· To ensure own mandatory training certificates are current.
· To maintain own personal and professional development in accordance with CPPD requirements, attending mandatory/ statutory study sessions as required
· To participate in reflective practice, and maintain a personal learning portfolio.
· To keep up to date with NMC, relevant specialist, Faculty & Trust guidelines and protocols.
· Prioritise workload effectively to enable new developments to be incorporated into current training programmes according to agreed service plans without fragmentation of service delivery
