We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our team at Mid and South Essex Foundation trust. As a key member of our pre-assessment department, you will play an essential role in ensuring that patients are thoroughly evaluated and properly prepared for their upcoming procedures.

You will be responsible for pre-operative nursing and medical assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of surgical procedures.

Provide comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring that all necessary investigations and results are collated prior to the patient’s admission.

Liaise with Anaesthetist/ Surgeons regarding potential medical problems and issues regarding surgery.

You will also be required to appropriate onward referral to primary and secondary care providers to ensure pre-operative health is optimised and act as the coordinator of care until the patient is admitted for surgery.

Previous pre-assessment experience, although desirable, is not essential.

You will be supported in the development of skills necessary for comprehensive, individualised anaesthetic pre-assessment whilst maintaining a progressive attitude towards patient care.

• You will be required to be able to work independently and organise your own workload whilst being part of a wider team.
• Assist in the planning of the pre-assessment clinics.
• Work under the indirect supervision of a senior nurse.
• Ensure implementation of workplace policies and procedures.
• Research and undertake audit relevant to the field of pre-assessment.
• Provide clinical advice and support to staff and patients within own level of competence.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate holistic, high quality and individualised care which respects a patient's person, dignity and beliefs.
• Maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff.
• Maintain and promote effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors.
• Act as a mentor to students including teaching, assessing and upholding the philosophy of evidence based practice.
• Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures.
• Manage the clinic ensuring safe and effective patient care.
