In conjunction with the Deputy Head of Finance and Commercial, the Deputy Finance Manager is the first port of call for all Pathology financial management queries; including preparing month end reports and forecasts, developing business plans and presenting these to stakeholders.
Pathology services are provided by Synnovis, a joint venture organisation. The Pathology Business Unit work across Guy's & St. Thomas' and King's College Hospital. The Deputy Finance Manager therefore works with colleagues across multiple organisations to ensure accurate reporting of pathology expenditure and provision of activity information to both internal and external stakeholders.
The Deputy Finance Manager provides business partnering support to Pathology in all their monthly, annual and ad hoc financial performance and planning activities. They are responsible for reviewing the month end positions, the completion of monthly forecasts and consolidation of a directorate monthly performance report, in consultation with stakeholders and the Deputy Head of Finance and Commercial, and presenting these at various meetings. They will support the annual financial planning process and undertake costings of service developments and savings plans.
Pathology Servicesare provided by Synnovis, a partnership between Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts and SYNLAB UK and Ireland.
Guy’s and St Thomas’ request 11m per year at a cost of £78m and manage contracts across other NHS Trusts and CCGs at a value of £16m. 70-80% of all healthcare decisions involve a pathology investigation, and therefore clinical engagement across a wide range of Trust services is key.
The PBUis a single and unified team serving the needs of both Trusts (and partner organisations) to manage the contract for the provision of Pathology services through Synnovis.
The Pathology Programme is substantial; transforming Pathology services across both Trusts as well as the Integrated Care System (ICS) to standardise the Target Operating Model and improve service levels for all of our patients.
The purpose of the PBU is to deliver the above, manage the contract and ensure robust service governance, holding all parties to account for delivery and ensuring appropriate clinical governance for a clinically-led service. It will also play a crucial role in resolving day-to-day operational issues and performance management, bring together the system-wide stakeholders into a collaborative partnership that delivers the benefits of the service transformation, while holding all parties to account for delivering their contractual obligations.
The Deputy Finance Manager will be a business partner to Pathology acting as the first port of call for all Pathology financial management queries.
The post holder will:
· Provide expert finance business partnering support to Pathology in all regular and ad hoc financial management and business planning activities.
· Take responsibility for designing & preparing the monthly finance reports and forecasts for Pathology, including discussing these with relevant stakeholders across the department.
· Support the Senior Finance Manager in the annual financial planning processes for Pathology, taking responsibility for preparing accurate financial plans based on the directorate’s strategies.
· Support the financial management of Pathology’s ongoing capital projects, ensuring that relevant costs are reflected accurately and promptly in capital accounts and preparing projections of future spend, in conjunction with the Capital Finance Team.
· Demonstrate confidence in communicating with staff at all levels and across all professional disciplines, and explain complex financial information to both finance and non-finance staff in a meaningful way.
· Liaise with colleagues at Synnovis, King’s College Hospital, as well as across South East London hospitals to ensure accurate reporting of pathology expenditure and provision of activity information to both internal and external stakeholders.
This role requires strong time management skills and the ability to maintain high quality outputs whilst managing competing commitments.
