Your new role
As Deputy Nursery Manager, you will work closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure the smooth and effective running of the nursery. You will take a leading role in staff development, operational management, and maintaining the highest standards of care and education. In the absence of the Nursery Manager, you will assume full responsibility for the setting.
Leadership & Management
- Support the Nursery Manager with the overall management, planning and development of the nursery.
- Lead, motivate and develop the staff team, ensuring a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Assist with recruitment, induction, performance reviews, and people management processes.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively to support staff growth and operational efficiency.
Childcare & Safeguarding
- Create and maintain a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for all children.
- Ensure safeguarding, health, safety and welfare are prioritised at all times.
- Take responsibility for child protection matters in liaison with relevant agencies.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels in line with statutory ratios, including rota planning.
Operational & Financial Management
- Support the Nursery Manager in ensuring the nursery is financially efficient and commercially successful.
- Assist in producing and monitoring the annual nursery budget.
- Handle nursery-related financial processes and returns.
- Ensure the building, equipment and grounds are well maintained and secure.
Communication & Administration
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers, staff and external agencies.
- Ensure all administrative tasks and record‑keeping are completed accurately and on time.
- Promote and uphold the nursery's equal opportunities policy.
- Support the nursery in maintaining full occupancy through effective planning and communication.
Additional Duties
- Take responsibility for a room when required and cover staff absences.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, parent events and other out‑of‑hours activities.
- Act as a positive role model for children and colleagues.
- Undertake any other duties required to support the smooth running of the nursery.
What you'll need to succeed
- A qualified early-years professional (Level 3 or above).
- Significant experience working in a nursery or early-years setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and support a team.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- A commitment to delivering high‑quality childcare and continuous improvement.
