About the Role
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is seeking a committed and qualified Social Worker (Grade 11) to join their 14+ Team on a short‑term maternity cover assignment. This is a frontline role supporting young people aged 14+ through high‑quality social work practice, assessment, care planning and review.

You will work collaboratively with young people, their families, carers and partner agencies to safeguard wellbeing, promote independence and ensure statutory responsibilities are met in line with the Social Services and Well‑being (Wales) Act 2014.

Team days are based across Ty Catrin, Pontypridd and Cynon PO, Trecynon, and the successful candidate will be expected to attend these locations as required.

Key Responsibilities
Undertake proportionate assessments with young people and their families, identifying outcomes and developing care and support plans

Manage a defined caseload, ensuring timely recording, review and statutory compliance

Work in partnership with multi‑agency professionals to safeguard and promote wellbeing

Engage directly with young people to understand their needs, wishes and aspirations

Identify and manage risk, ensuring appropriate interventions are in place

Prepare high‑quality written assessments, reports and case documentation

Participate in statutory meetings including CLA Reviews, protection conferences and planning meetings

Promote independence, resilience and positive outcomes for young people

Maintain accurate electronic case records in line with departmental procedures

Uphold the Social Care Wales Code of Professional Practice and engage in reflective supervision

Candidate Requirements
Essential:

Qualified Social Worker (MA/Degree in Social Work or recognised equivalent)

Registration with Social Care Wales

Experience working with children and young people, ideally within a 14+ or safeguarding context

Strong understanding of the Social Services and Well‑being (Wales) Act 2014

Knowledge of child development, risk assessment and care planning

Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload

Enhanced DBS (Child & Adult Workforce)

Ability to travel independently across the service area

Desirable:

Experience working within Welsh local authority children’s services

Knowledge of Welsh language (Level 1 required; higher levels desirable)
